Church email list

The 2020 U.S. Religion Census counted 356,642 congregations of all faiths in the United States (Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies, 2022). Overture Maps places (release of 2026-09-23) lists ~442,000 church locations, which is more than the census count of congregations, because map data keeps some closed churches and lists some churches twice. Read it as an upper bound. Each row of the list is one church location with the contact points the church publishes: the church office email and phone, the website, and the page where we found the email. It is not a list of pastors. You can order it now, nationwide or by state.

Church map listings by state

Texas has the most church locations on the map, ~39,000, followed by California, Florida, North Carolina and Georgia. Per resident, the South leads: Mississippi has 328.4 church locations per 100,000 residents and Alabama 278.8. Utah (46.0) and Nevada (55.6) have the lowest rates. In Utah the 2020 U.S. Religion Census counted 6,018 congregations, far above the map count, partly because congregations that share a building can appear as one listing.

Counts are rounded.

These are counts of map listings, rounded, by the state of each listing's address. The list will hold fewer rows, because our checks remove closed and duplicate entries.

By place category

Most church listings carry only a general Christian tag. 69% are tagged "Christian, tradition not given", and Baptist is the largest named tag. The table shows the largest category tags among church listings; mosques, synagogues, temples and other faiths are left out. The tags come from the map sources, so they can't be read as the share of each denomination.

Map category tags, not denominational shares.

Where the data comes from

The list starts from Overture Maps places, an open map dataset built from Meta, Microsoft and other sources, release of 2026-09-23. We keep places tagged as churches or named as one, drop closed listings, low-confidence listings and duplicates, and find each church's website. 77% of the church listings already name a website. Emails come from the church's own site, with the page URL, and for each order we check each one with the receiving mail server before it goes into your file. Contains data from Overture Maps Foundation, licensed under CDLA Permissive 2.0.

Questions about the church list

Can I buy the church email list now?

Yes. Choose nationwide or up to 10 states in the order panel on this page. It costs $249 nationwide, and state files start from $59. Delivered within 24 hours, usually much sooner. Nationwide files are verified and sent within 48 hours.

Is this a pastor email list?

No. Each row will be a church location with the contacts the church publishes for itself, usually an office email such as office@ or info@ and the church phone. The list will hold no pastor names. When a church publishes only a named inbox, the row will keep that address as the church lists it and mark it personal.

How many churches are in the US?

It depends on what you count. The 2020 U.S. Religion Census counted 356,642 congregations of all faiths. The Hartford Institute for Religion Research estimates roughly 373,000 religious congregations, about 335,000 of them Protestant and other Christian churches and 23,000 Catholic and Orthodox churches. Our map count, ~442,000 church locations, is higher than both; the church statistics page explains why.

Will the list show each church's denomination?

Yes, where the church states it. The denomination column will hold what the church names on its own website, such as Southern Baptist or United Methodist, and stay blank when the site doesn't say. Map tags are often generic, so we won't fill the denomination from them.

How is map data different from a census of churches?

A census of congregations, such as the U.S. Religion Census, asks religious bodies to report their congregations. Map data lists places people can find: a church can be listed twice under two names, a closed church can stay listed, and a congregation that meets in a school or a home may not be listed at all. ~366,000 of the church listings are marked open by their source; the rest have no status.

Does the list include church schools, ministries and church offices?

No. We will leave out religious schools, day cares, camps, seminaries, youth ministries, food pantries, church supply stores, diocesan and synod offices, and listings for a church's gym or fellowship hall. A school that is part of a church listing, such as "Trinity Lutheran Church and School", will stay in as the church.

Can I send email to churches legally?

In the US, CAN-SPAM allows commercial email to organizations if you identify yourself, include a postal address and an opt-out, and honor opt-outs. Calls and texts to mobile phones have stricter rules. This is general information, not legal advice. Read is buying an email list legal?
