How many churches are in Colorado?
Colorado had 4,333 congregations of all faiths in the 2020 U.S. Religion Census (Grammich et al., Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies, 2022). The census counts synagogues, temples and mosques in the same total.
Overture Maps places (release of 2026-09-23) lists ~4,900 church locations in Colorado, 13% more than the census figure, which puts the state at number 28 of 51 (states and DC) for the gap in percentage terms. That is 1.1% of the US map count, number 31 of 51. Per resident Colorado is near the bottom: 81.6 church locations per 100,000 residents, against 129.3 for the US, number 46 of 51. Utah, its neighbour to the west, is lower still at 46.0.

Denver has 13% of the state's listings, and Colorado Springs is close behind it, with not quite nine for every ten in Denver. Aurora, Lakewood, Littleton, Arvada, Centennial and Thornton are Denver-area cities with rows of their own, and Boulder, Longmont and Loveland sit between Denver and Fort Collins. Grand Junction is the only city west of the mountains in the top 15.
