FMCSA-registered US motor carriers from the census: fields, fleet sizes, operations and prices by state.
Hazmat carrier email list
The FMCSA Company Census File of 2026-10-03 holds ~95,000 active FMCSA-registered carriers flagged for hazardous materials. These are the carriers in our trucking company register whose census record carries the hazmat indicator, and they make up 10.3% of its ~915,000 carriers. Each carrier has an active USDOT number and has updated its MCS-150 in the last 24 months. Each row of the list is one carrier, with its USDOT number, fleet size, operation, MCS-150 date and a published email labelled with where we found it. You can order it now, nationwide or by state.

In the public register
Rounded count in FMCSA Company Census File, file of 2026-10-03. It is an upper bound: registers keep closed and duplicate entries, which our checks remove.
States plus DC with at least one entry in the register.

Who is included
A carrier is included when its census record has the hazmat indicator set to Y. FMCSA's data dictionary for the census lists the field as HM_IND, "HAZMAT INDICATOR", with the values Y or N, and gives no longer definition. Treat it as a flag on the carrier's registration. It doesn't show what a carrier hauls today or how often it carries hazardous materials.
The carrier must also be in the trucking register: an active USDOT number, a carrier operation, a physical address in the 50 states or DC, and an MCS-150 update in the last 24 months. Carriers with the flag but an older MCS-150 are left out, and so are shippers and brokers that run no trucks.
PHMSA's hazardous materials registration is a separate federal register. It applies to anyone who offers or transports certain hazardous materials, such as more than 25 kg of some explosives in one vehicle, so it includes shippers as well as carriers (49 CFR 107.601). We don't use it, and a carrier can appear in one register and not the other. The full column list is on the trucking company email list.

Counts are rounded.
These are register counts, rounded, by the state of each carrier's physical address. The list will hold fewer rows, because our checks remove closed and duplicate entries.
Where hazmat-flagged carriers are a large share
Nationally, 10.3% of register carriers have the hazmat flag, but the share ranges from about one in twenty in California to one in four in Vermont. We divided each state's hazmat-flagged carriers by its register carriers, both from the census file of 2026-10-03.
| Highest share | Hazmat-flagged share of the state's carriers |
|---|---|
| Vermont | 25.2% |
| New Hampshire | 22.6% |
| Montana | 19.9% |
| Kansas | 18.6% |
| Wyoming | 17.0% |
| Lowest share | Hazmat-flagged share of the state's carriers |
|---|---|
| California | 5.0% |
| Texas | 7.6% |
| New Jersey | 8.0% |
| Minnesota | 8.5% |
| New York | 8.8% |
The two largest trucking states sit at the bottom: Texas has more hazmat-flagged carriers than any other state, but they are a smaller share of its carriers than almost anywhere else. Vermont and New Hampshire are the reverse, with few carriers but a high share flagged. The census doesn't say why a carrier sets the flag, so these shares tell you about registrations only. They don't measure how much hazardous freight a state moves.
If you sell to hazmat carriers in California or Texas, more than nine in ten carriers in a state file of all carriers won't have the flag. The hazmat list will hold only the flagged ones.

Where the data comes from
The list starts from FMCSA's Company Census File, the register of every USDOT number, file of 2026-10-03. We take the active carriers that updated their MCS-150 in the last 24 months, add the MC docket from FMCSA's operating authority data, and find each carrier's website where it has one. Emails come from the census record, labelled with its file date, or from the carrier's own website, with the page URL. For each order we check each email with the receiving mail server before it goes into your file.

Questions about the hazmat carrier list
Is this a list of hazmat driving jobs?
No. It will list carrier companies for businesses that sell to them, such as insurers, fuel and equipment suppliers, compliance trainers and software vendors. If you are looking for a hazmat driving job, go to the carriers' own career pages.
How many hazmat carriers are in the US?
~95,000 active FMCSA-registered carriers flagged for hazardous materials, in the census file of 2026-10-03. That counts carriers with the flag, not carriers hauling hazardous loads on a given day.
Does the hazmat flag mean the carrier hauls hazardous materials now?
No. It is a Y or N indicator on the census record. A carrier with the flag may haul hazardous materials rarely or not at all, and the flag doesn't say which materials. Check a single carrier on FMCSA's free SAFER company snapshot.
Are hazmat carriers also on the trucking company list?
Yes. Every carrier on this list will also be on the trucking company email list, so if you buy both, remove duplicates by USDOT number. Don't add the two counts together.
Are one-truck carriers included?
Yes, when the carrier runs under its own USDOT number and has the flag. A one-truck carrier is a business, but it is often one person. The list has no driver names and leaves out addresses we identify as homes. For one-person carriers, the README in your file says which contact fields it includes.
Can I buy the hazmat carrier list now?
Yes. Choose nationwide or up to 10 states in the order panel on this page. It costs $249 nationwide, and the panel shows the price of each state file. Delivered within 24 hours, usually much sooner. That includes the nationwide file.
