Retail, independent and registered US pharmacies compared, with register counts by state.
Pharmacy email list
National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) data, analysed by the RUPRI Center for Rural Health Policy Analysis, counted 60,755 pharmacies providing retail services in the 50 states and DC in June 2023, and the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) estimates 18,960 independent community pharmacy locations (July 2025). The CMS NPPES register (file of 2026-09-14) lists ~95,000 registered pharmacy addresses of pharmacy organizations of every kind (taxonomy codes starting 3336). That count includes closed, long-term care, institutional and mail-order pharmacies, so it is an upper bound. ~50,000 of those addresses have a record updated or added in the last 5 years. Each row of the list is one pharmacy location, with the email it publishes, the page where we found it and the date we last verified it. You can order it now, nationwide or by state.

Counts are rounded.
These are register counts, rounded. The list will hold fewer rows, because our checks remove closed and duplicate entries.
By pharmacy type
Community and retail pharmacies are the largest group in the register. About three in ten addresses carry only the general pharmacy code, with no type. The rest are long-term care, clinic, specialty, home infusion, compounding, institutional, mail-order and other pharmacies. An address registered under more than one type is counted once in each row, so the rows add up to more than the total.
| Pharmacy type | Registered addresses |
|---|---|
| Community/Retail Pharmacy | ~57,000 |
| Pharmacy, type not given | ~28,000 |
| Long Term Care Pharmacy | ~8,500 |
| Clinic Pharmacy | ~1,600 |
| Specialty Pharmacy | ~1,300 |
| Home Infusion Therapy Pharmacy | ~1,200 |
| Compounding Pharmacy | ~1,200 |
| Institutional Pharmacy | ~870 |
| Mail Order Pharmacy | ~600 |
| Managed Care Organization Pharmacy | ~190 |
| Nuclear Pharmacy | ~30 |
Counts are rounded.
The register has no field for ownership, so it can't separate independent pharmacies from chain stores. The pharmacy_type column will separate community pharmacies from long-term care, mail-order and other kinds, and group_affiliation will name a chain where public evidence shows one.

Where the data comes from
The list starts from the CMS National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES), the federal register of healthcare providers, file of 2026-09-14. We group pharmacy organization registrations by address, match each location to its own website or its chain's store page, and record the emails and phone numbers published there, with the page URL. We check each email with the receiving mail server and leave out locations we can't confirm as current.

Questions about the pharmacy list
Can I buy the pharmacy list now?
Yes. Choose nationwide or up to 10 states in the order panel on this page. It costs $299 nationwide, and state files start from $39. Delivered within 24 hours, usually much sooner. Nationwide files are verified and sent within 48 hours.
How many pharmacies are in the US?
About 60,000. NCPDP data analysed by the RUPRI Center counted 60,755 pharmacies providing retail services in the 50 states and DC in June 2023, and BLS counted 59,585 pharmacy and drug retailer establishments in the fourth quarter of 2025. The NPPES register holds more addresses because it also covers pharmacy counters inside supermarkets and big-box stores, hospital pharmacies and long-term care pharmacies, and it keeps closed pharmacies until someone deactivates their numbers. The pharmacy statistics page compares the counts and gives the register figures by state.
Can I get only independent pharmacies?
Not as a separate file at first. NCPA estimates 18,960 independent community pharmacy locations (July 2025), nearly 36% of all retail pharmacies. Each row will carry a group_affiliation column naming the chain or group where public evidence shows one. A blank value means we found no affiliation. It doesn't confirm that the pharmacy is independent.
Does the list include long-term care and mail-order pharmacies?
Yes, when they publish a contact on their own website. The pharmacy_type column will mark each row as community, long-term care, mail order, specialty, compounding or other, so you can keep the kinds you sell to and drop the rest.
Does the list contain patient data, and does HIPAA apply?
No. The list holds business contact details for pharmacies: names, addresses, phone numbers and the emails pharmacies publish themselves. It has no patient or prescription records. HIPAA protects patients' health information, which the list doesn't contain. This is general information, not legal advice.
Is this a pharmacy directory for finding a pharmacy near me?
No. It is a business file for companies that sell to pharmacies, such as wholesalers, software vendors and service firms. To find a pharmacy near you, use your health plan's pharmacy finder or a map search.
Can I send email to pharmacies legally?
In the US, CAN-SPAM allows commercial email to businesses if you identify yourself, include a postal address and an opt-out, and honor opt-outs. This is general information, not legal advice. Read is buying an email list legal?
