How many churches are in Georgia?
The 2020 U.S. Religion Census counted 12,891 congregations of all faiths in Georgia (Grammich et al., Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies, 2022). For a count of congregations, use that figure.
In percentage terms, public maps disagree with it more in Georgia than anywhere else. Overture Maps places (release of 2026-09-23) lists ~21,000 church locations in the state, 62% more than the census figure: number 1 of 51 (states and DC) for the size of the gap in percentage terms, though Texas has the larger gap in absolute numbers. The map count is number 5 of 51 and 4.7% of the US total, with 185.0 church locations per 100,000 residents against 129.3 for the US. The gap comes from what a map counts: closed churches that are still listed, congregations listed under two names or at two campuses, and new churches founded since 2020. Our data can't say which of these weighs most in Georgia.

Georgia compared with the US
Baptist is the largest named tag on Georgia's map, well ahead of Pentecostal, and Roman Catholic tags are few. Most listings carry only the generic Christian tag, so the table shows labels, not the real size of each denomination.

Questions about churches in Georgia
How many churches are in Georgia? The 2020 U.S. Religion Census figure is 12,891 congregations of all faiths. Maps list ~21,000 church locations, a much higher figure that counts listings, not congregations.
Why is Georgia's map count so far above the census? The two sources count different things. The census asks religious bodies to report their congregations; a map lists every place someone added, including churches that closed and second listings for one church. Georgia has the largest gap between the two in percentage terms (number 1 of 51), so treat its map count as a loose upper bound.
Which Georgia city has the most churches? Atlanta, followed by Savannah, Augusta, Macon and Columbus. Of the Atlanta suburbs, Marietta has the most listings.
Is there a Georgia church email list? Yes. Each row is one church location with the phone and website it publishes, plus its office email where it publishes one. The list holds no pastor names. You can order Georgia churches as a state file from the order panel on this page. We update and verify your list when you order, so you receive a fresh list. What these numbers don't show
Which listings are stale. Our data can't separate a closed church from an open one when the status is missing.
Churches founded after 2020. The census figure is from 2020; the map is from 2026.
Baptist affiliation. The map tag doesn't say which Baptist body a church belongs to.
Size. Every listing counts once, however many people attend.
