How many churches are in Florida?
Florida had 17,511 congregations of all faiths in the 2020 U.S. Religion Census (Grammich et al., Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies, 2022). The figure includes synagogues, mosques and temples as well as churches.
The figure from public maps is much higher. Overture Maps places (release of 2026-09-23) lists ~25,000 church locations in Florida, number 3 of 51 (states and DC) and 5.7% of the US map count. That is 44% above the census figure, one of the wider gaps (number 6 of 51). Map data keeps churches that closed, lists some churches twice and lists each campus separately, and churches founded since 2020 are on the map but not in the census. For its population, Florida has fewer church locations than the US average: 107.3 per 100,000 residents, against 129.3, number 36 of 51.

Questions about churches in Florida
How many churches are in Florida? The 2020 U.S. Religion Census counted 17,511 congregations of all faiths. On public maps, Florida has ~25,000 church locations, the third-largest map count after Texas and California.
Which Florida city has the most churches? Jacksonville. Orlando and Miami follow with almost the same count, then Tampa. City rows follow the city in each address, so suburbs such as Kissimmee near Orlando are their own rows.
Why is Florida's map count so much higher than the census count? The census counts congregations; the map counts places. Closed churches that stay listed, churches listed twice and multi-campus churches all raise the map count, and new churches since 2020 add to it. Read the map count as an upper bound.
Can I order a Florida church list? Yes. You can order Florida churches as a state file from the order panel on this page. It has one row per church location with the church's phone and website and, where it publishes one, its email and the source page of the email. We update and verify your list when you order, so you receive a fresh list. Delivered within 24 hours, usually much sooner.
