Trucking companies in Pennsylvania
Philadelphia has more trucking carriers than Pittsburgh, Allentown and Reading put together, and more than three times Pittsburgh's count alone. Across the state, the FMCSA Company Census File of 2026-10-03 shows ~43,000 active FMCSA-registered carriers with an MCS-150 update in the last 24 months at a Pennsylvania physical address. That ranks Pennsylvania 5 of 51 (states and DC), with 4.7% of the US register and 325.7 carriers per 100,000 residents, above the US rate of 267.6. Not every one is a trucking company for hire: private fleets, passenger carriers and inactive registrations are counted too, so the figure is an upper bound.
