Trucking companies in Indiana
Central Indiana dominates the state's carrier register. Indianapolis alone has nearly one Indiana carrier in five, and with Greenwood, Fishers, Avon, Plainfield, Noblesville and Whiteland, the Indianapolis area accounts for about three in ten. In total, the FMCSA Company Census File of 2026-10-03 shows ~21,000 active FMCSA-registered carriers with an MCS-150 update in the last 24 months at Indiana physical addresses. Indiana is number 14 of 51 (states and DC), with 2.3% of the US register and 301.4 carriers per 100,000 residents, compared with 267.6 for the US. As with every state, the count includes private fleets and registrations that are no longer hauling, so it overstates the number of trucking companies.
Indianapolis and six of its suburbs in the top 15 hold about three in ten Indiana carriers.

What these numbers don't show
Chicago-area carriers in Illinois. Gary and Hammond carriers count in Indiana; their neighbours a few miles west count in Illinois.
Terminals. A national carrier with a yard in Indianapolis counts in the state of its MCS-150 address, not here.
Current truck counts. Indiana's larger fleets are sized by the power units each carrier last reported, up to two years ago.
Leased drivers. Owner-operators leased to a carrier run under that carrier's USDOT number.
