US dental offices from the CMS NPPES register: fields, method and prices, nationwide or by state.
Orthodontist email list
The CMS NPPES register (file of 2026-09-14) lists ~17,000 registered practice addresses where at least one provider carries the orthodontics code. That is about 8% of the ~218,000 dental addresses in the same file, and an upper bound, because the register keeps closed and duplicate addresses. The orthodontist list holds one row per orthodontic office that we can confirm, with its published email and the page where we found it. You can order it now, nationwide or by state.

In the public register
Rounded count in CMS NPPES, file of 2026-09-14. It is an upper bound: registers keep closed and duplicate entries, which our checks remove.
States plus DC with at least one entry in the register.
The date of the public file we counted.
Who is included
An office will be in this list when a provider registered at its address carries the orthodontics taxonomy, code 1223X0400X, in any of the 15 taxonomy slots of an NPPES record. That covers orthodontists who list a second specialty first, and orthodontic organizations registered under the code. General dental offices that offer clear aligners but have no orthodontist registered will be left out. They belong in the dentist email list.
In the register, ~14,000 individual orthodontists and ~9,300 organizations carry the code. One orthodontist can work at several offices, and one organization can run several, so neither figure is an office count.

Where orthodontic addresses cluster
Colorado has the most orthodontic addresses per resident, ahead of Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, Utah and Connecticut. The national rate is about 5 per 100,000 residents. Florida stands out among the large states. It is fourth by count but below the national rate per resident. Iowa and West Virginia have the lowest rates. The ten highest rates, states and DC:
| State | Per 100,000 residents | In the public register |
|---|---|---|
| Colorado | 9.2 | ~550 |
| Massachusetts | 7.6 | ~550 |
| District of Columbia | 7.4 | ~50 |
| Utah | 7.4 | ~260 |
| Connecticut | 7.3 | ~270 |
| Nevada | 6.7 | ~220 |
| California | 6.4 | ~2,500 |
| New Jersey | 6.3 | ~600 |
| New Hampshire | 6.1 | ~90 |
| Washington | 6.1 | ~490 |
Counts are rounded.
Orthodontics clusters differently from dentistry as a whole. Alaska has the second-highest rate of dental addresses per resident, after the District of Columbia, but one of the five lowest orthodontic rates. Utah sits a little above the national rate for dentistry and far above it for orthodontics. For a campaign aimed at orthodontists, a state's dental count is a poor guide to its orthodontic count.

Where the data comes from
The list starts from the CMS National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES), the federal register of healthcare providers, file of 2026-09-14. We match each office to its own website and record the emails and phone numbers it publishes there, with the page URL. For each order we check each email with the office's mail server. An office with no published email, or whose email fails the check, stays in the list with its address and phone and no email. We leave out offices we can't confirm as current.

Questions about the orthodontist list
How many orthodontists are in the US?
BLS counted 6,210 orthodontist jobs in May 2025 (OEWS, SOC 29-1023). That is a floor, because it leaves out orthodontists who own their practice. The CMS NPPES register holds ~14,000 individual orthodontist registrations, an upper bound, because retired orthodontists keep their records. The real number lies between the two. More on the dentist statistics page.
Can I buy the orthodontist list now?
Yes. Choose nationwide or up to 10 states in the order panel on this page. It costs $249 nationwide, and the panel shows the price of each state file. Delivered within 24 hours, usually much sooner. That includes the nationwide file.
Can I get orthodontists and pediatric dentists together?
The specialty column will let you filter the full dentist email list to both. Contact us if you need a combined file.
Are orthodontic offices owned by DSOs included?
Yes. The group_affiliation column names the group where public evidence shows one. A blank means we found no public link, not that the office is independent.
How are orthodontist files delivered and refunded?
The same as every list. Delivered within 24 hours, usually much sooner. Card held at checkout, charged on delivery. The 5% bounce refund applies too. See pricing.
